Address to the nation by the President of the Federal Republic of Nepal,
Rt. Honorable Dr. Ram Baran Yadav

Distinguished Nepali brothers and sisters,
As the first President of the Republic of Nepal, established as a result of several historic revolutions, political struggles and people's movements launched by Nepali people since 1950, I would like to extend my heartfelt greetings, in this joyous movement, to all Nepali brothers and sisters, and offer my sincere homage to both known and unknown martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the struggle of democracy.
Nepal is known as a unique symbol of unity in diversity in geography, social structure, culture, religion, ethnicity, and languages. As a colorful garden of various castes, class and communities, Nepal has remained a sovereign, integral and independent country from the early days of history.
We all are Nepali whether we live in Terai-Madhesh, or in hills or in high Himalayas. We have always been uniting ourselves to protect the sovereignty and integrity of our beloved country. In the same vein, we all are committed to ensuring multiparty democratic dispensation, universally accepted norms of human rights and rule of law. During the tenure of my Presidency, I shall remain fully committed to promoting these principles while discharging my duties and responsibilities impartially.
Distinguished Nepali brothers and sisters,
We are now in the process of framing a new constitution that will define the destiny of Nepal and the Nepalese people. We have a challenge ahead of us to write a constitution within two years from now. In order to rise above this challenge, it is the need of the hour for all the political forces represented in the Constituent Assembly and the Nepalese people to move ahead together in coherence. Only then will the Constitution written by us will draw bright fortune lines of Nepal and Nepali people. In the historic works like making a new Constitution, whereby the future of the state and the people is linked, I will play supportive and coordinating role, as envisioned in the Interim Constitution of Nepal 2063.
Unity among us is vital necessity in order to make our common dream of New Nepal a reality. Only on the foundation of unity, the edifice of peaceful and civilized society as well as the economic and social progress can be achieved, by maintaining ethnic and regional fraternity and restructuring the state based on rationality and justice.
There can not be any alternative to national unity and reconciliation in order to move towards a better future by leaving our bitter past behind and to take the peace process to a logical conclusion. I am confident that the soon-to-be-formed government will frame its policy and program through broad based consensus.
Time now will be very crucial for us in order to strive for changing the face of Nepal and the Nepalese nationals through the establishment of peace, social justice, rule of law and inclusive democracy. In this period, it will be the priority for all of us to fulfill basic needs of the people, to build and rebuild physical infrastructure and achieve durable peace by laying appropriate and solid foundations for state restructuring as well as multi-party democracy.
Immense opportunities are bestowed upon the Nepalese people, for the first time in the annals of Nepalese history, to sketch their own destiny by themselves by framing a new constitution. Yet, there are formidable challenges. Indeed, we have been provided tremendous opportunity to translate such a bane into a boon. Hence, both vigour and caution are needed in us. I am confident that we, the Nepalese people, have ability and self-confidence to tide over these challenges.
There is no doubt, the country can move ahead with the united and collaborative endeavor among all political parties, Nepalese army, police, civil servants and people from different walks of life who are concious on their duties and responsibilities. I am also confident that the support extended by the well-wishing friendly countries and international communities will be continued to sustain our united endeavour.
Beloved Nepali brothers and sisters,
I ascend to this highest post on account of your enormous sympathy and trust. I am a son of an ordinary peasant. As I was born in Nepalese soil and grew playing with it, the joys and sorrows of the peasants, workers and general fellow country people are connected with my own joys and sorrows.
First and foremost, we are all Nepalis whether we live in the Terai-Madhes, the hills or the mountains, irrespective of what language we speak, what dress we wear, and what religion we profess. We will survive if Nepal survives, democracy survives only if we remain committed to it, and the nation will prosper if the democracy fosters.
Let's move forward by joining hand in hand for the creation of new Nepal by promoting and protecting our national sovereignty, integrity, national unity, and dignity, ethnic and communal harmony.
